Dentosophy, Our Mouth Is a Mirror of Our Health

Article date: 18/05/2011

Michel Montaud* is a dentist based in the Drôme. But he is also the co-founder of a practice: dentosophy, "wisdom of the teeth." He is also the author of Nos dents, a porte vers la santé. And if our mouth is the expression of our entire being?

Answers with a passionate, inspired man who willingly shares his knowledge and insights on health and spiritual quest.

Tell us about your journey

I was a conventional dentist who until then practiced classical dentistry. But an event occurred in my life and forced me to act differently, my son was suffering, medicine was not able to relieve him, and I wanted to treat him differently.

I stepped out of dentistry and turned to alternative sciences: osteopathy, Chinese medicine. This journey was difficult as it required questioning my knowledge.

But before my son's discomfort, I had already begun to reflect on my profession: I had stopped extracting healthy teeth, the first premolars (in dentistry, this is done to make room in the mouth) but we can avoid this gesture that causes imbalances in the mouth and proceed differently, which I realized.

The mouth is a mirror of our inner life, we are able to describe what a person is, their character, through the mouth, it allows us to place the person in their personal quest.

I am convinced that science must join spirituality, the approach of dentosophy fits perfectly in this framework, it carries a universal connotation.

On what works do you base yourself? What scientific research is ongoing on this practice?

I completely left the words "scientific" and "scientific research" because it is too limited. I am opposed to the saying "I only believe what I see."

Dentosophy, on the other hand, is an empirical and clinical science that is irrefutable and reproducible 100%. The only written work that exists on this practice is my book!

The lesson I draw from dentosophy is that we no longer have answers to anything and yet we must seek them where they do not exist on a terrestrial level. In this, Rudolph Steiner's work was a true revelation that provided me with the missing insights and made me believe that dentosophy is a stepping stone to anthroposophy. It is absolutely necessary to link science to the spirit, putting scientific studies in their place.

Why do people consult you?

People come mainly for a sense of well-being, whether they are children, adolescents, or adults. There is no age to start dentosophy therapy!

However, to see me, I ask that patients have read my book, people must come with consciousness and information. I have also evolved my practice: when I have young patients in consultation, I address the child exclusively.

The session proceeds as follows: I look at the patient's mouth and guide them to make the connection between their mouth and what they are. I am aware that for the patient, dentosophy is not a simple therapy because it really must come from them, I only accompany them in this process.

In general, there is a first consultation followed by a consultation every 2 months.

The patient is on the path to their healing when their mouth has moved (they can appreciate this change by comparing with the photograph I took of their mouth during the first session) and this physical evolution is always accompanied by a clear improvement.

For your consultations, you use a rubber activator, what is it?

It is an apparatus that the patient puts in their mouth, but it is just a tool, a red thread, a revealer to make them aware of the link that exists between the mouth and their inner self.

The activator is the patient's will to decide to put it on, they therefore have the power to heal in their hands.

It is really an autotherapy accompanied.

The idea is to put this activator in consciousness, that is, to stop in their life and sit without music, without distraction, and I know how difficult it is nowadays!

I set up two phases that the patient must respect: • A conscious phase: the work of day The patient wears the activator 3x 20 minutes per day (these are rules that can be relaxed) with a stop and image, letting everything go.

The following three points must be followed:

Be conscious

Respect the rhythm: wear the activator every day Never feel pain. If you feel pain, stop.

An unconscious phase: at night

You fall asleep and wake up with the activator. Or you fall asleep and lose it during the night.

The essential is to fall asleep every night with the device.

Everyone sleeps with the activator, I have not met any patients who do not fall asleep with it.

Even a 2-year-old child can do it without risk! The key is to have the child's full participation.

Improvements are immediate! At the current time, it is the only practice, to my knowledge, that allows the mouth to move with eurythmy.***

Dentosophy allows the mouth to be rebalanced and also to reconcile the feminine and masculine that each one has within themselves. Small illustration: if you chew on the right: it is the masculine side that expresses itself. If you chew on the left: it is the feminine that comes out, it is a basic framework, but it gives an idea.

To rebalance, we must make the effort in consciousness to chew on the other side, we are then in consciousness and not in automatism, which obviously requires work!

From one people to another, are all mouths identical?

No! We do not have the same interiority, the same relationship to nature, to life, from one country to another, from one culture to another. And the mouths say it very well.

In the West, for example, teeth are tormented, unbalanced, which corresponds to the torments we live.

What are your inspirations?

I am very inspired by Rudolph Steiner's work, for me a true universal being: anthroposophy, physiology, pedagogy, agriculture,...

I am convinced that we must let go of our old beliefs and put in place a new brain.

I have in mind a quote from Einstein that perfectly illustrates what I feel: we cannot solve problems with the same brain that created them. We must go seek the never seen, the never heard, go to the deepest part of ourselves. Merge science with spirituality, that is my quest on this Earth!

Books to recommend to readers?

It is not possible to pick one book over another from anthroposophy (Steiner gave more than 6000 lectures) or other authors so many are interesting; it is up to the readers to make their own way.

Here is what FemininBio recommends if you want to get a small idea of all these questions:

Dialogue with the Angel by Gitta Mallasz

The Initiation of Rudolph Steiner

The School that Makes You Love School by Denise Gilliand (DVD)

Nos dents, une porte vers la santé

*Co-creator of the SCHOOL OF DENTOSOPHY, a scientific society whose goal is to promote functional methods in France and around the world.

****Anthroposophy is a current of thought and spirituality created at the beginning of the 20th century by Rudolf Steiner. According to him, it would be a science of the spirit, an attempt to study, experience, and describe spiritual phenomena with the same precision and clarity with which science studies and describes the physical world.

The principles of anthroposophy have been applied in various fields, such as Steiner schools, biodynamic agriculture, anthroposophical medicine,... (source: Wikipedia).

*Eurythmy is an art form created by Rudolf Steiner and his wife Marie von Sivers.

Eurythmy is an artistic expression in which music and words are expressed through specific body movements that correspond to vowels and consonants (to notes, to chords). It has also been called "visible speech" or "visible song" (source: Wikipedia).

There is a therapeutic eurythmy that allows dental movements without any device in the mouth.
